The dynamics of supersports and the comfort of touring—those were the two things that Triumph had in mind when it created the Sprint ST.
Triumph's signature triple-cylinder engine was positioned across the frame while the stroke was increased by 6.4mm and the displacement to 1050cc over the conventional liquid-cooled dual-overhead-cam, 4-valve 995cc engine. Overall reprogramming of the fuel injection device also gave the Sprint ST improved torque from the low end and a gave higher maximum output. This evolution of a modern three-cylinder engine also aimed at reducing noise by redesigning the primary reduction gear.
With a twin-spar aluminum chassis sporting a telescopic front fork and link-type rear suspension, the Sprint ST has an extremely orthodox design. And yet the triple front headlights on the front fairing, the single-sided swing arm, and the under-seat muffler with triple exhaust silencers produce an individuality that makes the Sprint ST stand alone.
Just hop on the slightly raised seat and lean into the somewhat forward-crouching riding position, and you'll experience a smooth ride close to that of a 4-cylinder bike. But the higher you rev the more you'll feel the untamed power and sound that are only available with a 3-cylinder motor. The top speed on the Sprint ST is at the same high level as Japanese bikes in this class, but it also displays excellent stability and a strong top end, nimble left and right transitions in curves, and a solid road-hugging ability.
The brakes are set for maximum braking power, but these friendly settings also ensure ease of handling in normal use. Though there's no startling new technology incorporated into the Sprint ST, whether its the engine, the overall design, or the brakes, together the parts of this motorcycle put it in a higher dimension, and the more you ride it the more its superior balance will surprise you. The Sprint ST is a quality sports bike that aims at true all-around performance by faithfully implementing the basics.
