The Toyota FT-1 is a concept car produced by Toyota. It first appears in Gran Turismo 6, where it was introduced as part of Update 1.03, after being unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, held on Detroit. It is also available in Gran Turismo Sport, where it was added as part of Update 1.11, released on January 26, 2018.

Description

The Toyota FT-1 was designed by Calty Design Research in California, United States. Work on the car began two years before it's public launch. The FT-1 intends to carry the legacy of Toyota's sports cars such as 2000GT, Supra (of which the FT-1 is rumored as a possible successor) and MR-2, as well as the Lexus LFA and Toyota 86 (Scion FR-S in the US).

The FT-1 was added in update 1.03 of GT6, following the car's launch at North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and was followed by a seasonal event in Laguna Seca, where players must set a bronze time or better to obtain the FT-1 for free. The event ended on February 2, 2014.

A second seasonal event was held in April later that year to coincide with the car's second launch at New York Auto Show. The second seasonal event also included a Photomode contest where pictures of FT-1 taken in-game and uploaded to social media networks with the #CaptureGT6 hashtag would be featured on Toyota's and SCEA's official social media accounts.

A graphite version of the FT-1, originally displayed at the Monterey Jet Center in August 2014, was added to the game in Update 1.12 released in Setptember 2014. The update also includes the Vision GT version of the FT-1, which features modified aggresive looking Super GT style bodykits, and thus is designed for racing.

Trivia

  • Although the dimensions of the car is not mentioned in the specifications sheet, the dimensions are mentioned in the car description instead.
  • If the regular or graphite FT-1 is taken to photo travel, and the player zooms in to the car's window, the cockpit will display the track map of Kart Space, a track where only karts are admitted, and thus would go unused otherwise.
  • The FT-1 and the BMW M4 Coupé are the only DLC cars in GT6 that have seasonal events tied to them held more than once.
