In-game Description[]

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

The TVR Chimaera was introduced at the 1992 Birmingham Motor Show and was instantly hailed as a success. Based on the award-winning Griffith, the Chimaera went into production in February 1993 and was designed to be a softer car that would be more suited to Grand Touring than the Griffith. The name Chimaera refers back to Greek mythology, which speaks of a fire-breathing monster with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a serpent. There's no mention of a Rover V8 engine though, which is what you'll find under the bonnet. TVR's version of the mythical beast is powered by a 235bhp 4-litre Rover engine, with the option of a 285bhp 4.5-litre or even a 320bhp five-litre unit. Torque figures for the five-litre car are just as impressive, with 320 lb/ft of torque at just 4,000rpm. As you'd expect from a TVR, the Chimaera's performance figures make most other cars seem positively pedestrian. Even the smallest-engined version will dispatch the 0-60mph sprint in 5.7 seconds, while the five-litre car does the same in just 5.2 seconds. Maximum speeds are 143mph and 167mph respectively. The Chimaera's handling has not been left to chance, with a chassis developed directly from the TVR Tuscan racer which incorporates double wishbones all around. With ventilated disc brakes all around too, the Chimaera stops as fast as it goes, although as with all TVRs there is no ABS option. The Chimaera sits atop 7Jx15-inch wheels on the front and 7.5Jx16-inch wheels on the rear. The Chimaera is TVR's best-selling model and has reinforced TVR's position as Britain's largest independent car manufacturer.
