The Plymouth Superbird is an American muscle car produced by Plymouth.

It is based on the Roadrunner, adding an aerodynamic nosecone, a high-rise rear spoiler for improved downforce, and special rear-facing scoops over the front wheel wells to facilitate the ventilation of trapped air and reduce front-end lift. The Superbird was created as a means to homologate these extreme aerodynamic modifications for the NASCAR series.

Although highly beneficial on the fast oval tracks, the impressive aero package, combined with the now necessary pop-up headlights, did little more than add weight to the standard road car.

Luckily the Superbird compensated with impressive amounts of power coming from three available engines: the 440 Super Commando (375HP), the 440 Super Commando Six Barrel (420HP) and the famous 426 Hemi (431HP).

The Superbird's styling proved to be a little extreme for 1970 tastes. Consequently, many of the 1,920 examples built sat unsold on the back lots of dealerships as late as 1972. Some were converted into 1970 Road Runners to move them off the sales lot.

In recent years, however, the Superbird has become a quite valuable and collectible car.

The Superbird appears in all Gran Turismo games to date since Gran Turismo 2, barring Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec.
