The Nissan GRAN TURISMO SKYLINE GT-R (PaceCar) '01 is a pace car variant of the Nissan GRAN TURISMO SKYLINE GT-R '01 in Gran Turismo PaceCar livery. It appears, both as an unplayable PaceCar in License Tests and as a playable car once won, in Gran Turismo 4. It is also available in Gran Turismo Concept, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5 and in Gran Turismo 6.
"A special GT-R pace car, with rotating emergency lights on the roof."
Gran Turismo had an exhibition booth at the Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) for some time now, and when we decided that we wanted to display a car that most reflected our vision and philosophy behind the Gran Turismo dream, Nismo stepped up to offer us a helping hand. The result: The Nissan Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R. It was created using an R34 Skyline GT-R that Nismo had tucked away, to be used solely for research and development purposes.
Starting out life as a perfectly street legal GT-R, we customized it with numerous parts from Nismo's S-Tune menu. A remapped engine control unit and re-tuned intake and exhaust systems were among the S-Tune extras for the engine, while the exterior benefits from the new Nismo aerodynamic bits including a new front bumper, side skirts, a GT diffuser, and a new air induction slit on the hood (not to mention the terrific Gran Turismo paint scheme and "GT" logos).
We're proud of our creation, it's been included in every version of the game since the "Gran Turismo Concept" release, and in addition to being offered as a prize car, another version with flashing lights on its roof appears as a pace car. At one point, there was even a scale model of our Nissan Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R offered for sale.
Appearances in Gran Turismo 4Edit
The GRAN TURISMO SKYLINE GT-R PaceCar serves as the pacemaker in several license tests, all named "1 Lap Guide Run". In these tests, the player drives behind the PaceCar in order to learn braking points and racing lines around the game's circuits. The following is a list of these tests:
- B-5: Tsukuba
- B-10: Laguna Seca
- B-15: Infineon Raceway
- A-5: Grand Valley East
- A-10: Suzuka
- A-15: Trial Mountain Circuit
- iB-5: Costa di Amalfi
- iB-10: Hong Kong
- iB-15: Citta di Aria
- iA-5: El Capitan
- iA-10: Fuji Speedway 2005
- iA-15: Nürburgring Nordschleife
Gran Turismo 4Edit
The PaceCar cannot be bought, as it doesn't appear in either the Nissan dealership nor the Used Car dealerships. It can, however, be won from the Real Circuit Tours event in the Extreme Hall. The game's pre-race listings dub this car as the GRAN TURISMO SKYLINE GT-R (PC) '01.
Gran Turismo PSPEdit
The PaceCar can be purchased from the Nissan dealership for 100,000 Credits.
Gran Turismo 5Edit
As a Standard car, the PaceCar cannot be bought from the Dealership, nor is it available as a prize car.
It can, occasionally, be found in the Used Car Dealership, costing around 123,000 Credits. It is a Level 9 car.
Gran Turismo 6Edit
In GT6, the PaceCar can be purchased for 100,000 Credits. It is a simplified car.
