In-game descriptionEdit

"The "Lan-Turbo": an ultra-fast saloon that left sportscars in the dust."

The 2nd-generation Lancer, released in 1979, was given the new "EX" sub-name to distinguish it from the front-wheel-drive Lancer Fiore, on sale at the same time.

The 1st-generation Lancer, introduced in 1973, dominated the top four spots at the Southern Cross Rally that year, and the following year it won races like the Safari Rally, establishing its reputation as a fiercely competitive machine. For this reason, though the 2nd-generation started off with a family car image, it slowly revealed its sports colours as time progressed.

The best example was the 1800 Turbo, released in 1981. As the first Mitsubishi automobile to be equipped with a turbo, this model was given the nickname "Lan-Turbo", and it defined the Lancer sports image.

The Lan-Turbo's engine was a turbocharged 1.8L SOHC inline-4 engine that produced 133 BHP, making its performance unusually exceptional for a family saloon. With its front suspension given a caster angle more appropriate for a sports car, and a newly-developed 4-link rear suspension, the already high potential of the Lancer was clearly being made the most of.

And this assessment becomes conclusive with the minor changes made in 1983. The Lan-Turbo was given a large intercooler, boosting power to 158 BHP. As a result, the Lancer Turbo became a saloon that could rival the Celica and Z. It received overwhelmingly enthusiastic support from car lovers and participated heavily in motorsports. Incidentally, the European-spec Lancer Turbo had a 2.0L engine that boasted 173 BHP. Mitsubishi entered this model in the WRC and finished an impressive 3rd in the 1982 Thousand Lakes Rally.
