The Land Rover Range Stormer Concept '04 is a Concept car produced by Land Rover. It appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6. It is the first concept car produced by Land Rover.
"Range Rover's first concept car, with a full aluminium body."
Land Rover's concept car, the Range Stormer, made its debut at the 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new vehicle represented the first ever concept car in Range Rover's rich history.
The Stormer was built atop the Range Rover chassis, but numerous modifications were made to the structure. While the styling retained the basic Range Rover appearance, the body design was transformed into a "2-box" SUV layout featuring two doors and a hatch. The frame was composed entirely of aluminum, achieving weight reduction levels normally seen in monocoque constructions. The vehicle sat low to the ground, with doors that were partitioned into top and bottom sections. The top halves were hinged to the A-pillar, opening scissor-style (window and all), while the bottom halves were hinged to the side seal to open outward.
Powering the Stormer was the same supercharged 4.2-liter DOHC V8 found in the Jaguar XJR and XKR, mated to a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission. With power levels way over 295 HP, the vehicle's name "Stormer" was aptly applied. The 4-wheel independent suspension employed an electronically-controlled height-adjustable air suspension. Not only did it provide for a comfortable ride, it ensured stable handling. The 22-in. custom wheels also helped in the cornering department, as well as adding a certain amount of bling, making the Stormer a flashy vehicle that also possessed the heart of a sports car.
