"A special car making the ultra-high-performance XKR sportscar even greater."
The Jaguar XK series, introduced at the New York Auto Show in 1996, was the model that took off where the Legendary E-Type more than three decades ago. The new XK was among the most luxurious high-performance sports cars in the world, and the ultimate version of the XK were the coveted "R" badge.
The heart of the XKR's high performance was its 4.0-liter DOHC V-8 complete with an Eaton supercharger. It pumped out 400 HP at 6100 rpm and 407.9 ft-lb of torque at 3500. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the XKR reached a top speed of 155 mph and ran from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds. (The car's top speed was much higher without the restrictor.) Stopping the car were custom Brembo brakes.
The XKR featured the company's innovative CATS electronic variable damper control system. This suspension system adjusted damping force depending on car speed and road conditions, and the system was honed on the winding roads of England. It was especially effective when the road was twisty, helping the car to exhibit flat cornering character. Providing grip were wide tires, 245/ZR18 front and 255/45ZR18 rears.
The XKR also sported Recaro seats, a leather steering wheel, and an aluminum-trimmed interior that signified that the car was a high-performance machine of the first order.
