"The modern day reincarnation of the E-Type, and the fastest model of the XK series."
The Jaguar XK series, introduced at the New York Auto Show in 1996, was the model that resurrected the Jaguar E-Type in modern form. It was among the most luxurious high-performance sports cars in the world, and the ultimate version of the XK was the faster XKR.
For an even more extreme XKR, an R Performance package was available as an option. This high-performance upgrade is offered on all Jaguar models, and in the case of the XKR it includes refinements like Recaro seats, a leather steering wheel, and an aluminum interior.
The secret of its high performance was its 4L DOHC V8 engine with an Eaton supercharger, yielding a phenomenal maximum output of 400 HP at 6100 rpm, with 407.9 ft-lb maximum torque at 3500 rpm. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the XKR reached a top speed of 155 mph and logged a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 5.2 seconds. The top speed would most likely be higher if the restrictor were removed. The brakes are custom Brembos fitted for the XKR.
Incidentally, the feature that puts this XLR in the AMG and BMW M-series is the CATS electronic variable damper control system. This suspension can adjust damping force depending on car speed and road conditions, and the system was honed on the wild and winding roads of England. It offers that unique Jaguar mix of control and ride comfort.
The suspension is topped off with 20" aluminum wheels. This special edition represents the racing side of Jaguar, who have been active in both the Le Mans and the F1.
