Description[]

"The concept car that continues to live on inside a game; developed in co-operation with Citroën."

The super sports concept car, the GT by Citroën, is the product of the collaboration between Citroën and Gran Turismo. The car made a huge splash at its debut at the 2008 Paris Auto Salon, and it catapulted the car's designer, Takumi Yamamoto, into the limelight.

The head-turning concept car was the product of numerous trips between Japan and France by both Citroën and Gran Turismo personnel. Here, the car has been transformed from a show car to a running model called the GT by Citroën Road Car, thanks to the magic of Gran Turismo. The major difference is that the real-life concept was powered by an electric motor while the virtual car possesses a high-output V-8 mounted amidships.

The robotic armor-like body style of the concept car has been retained, and the vents on the body do their part in dissipating engine heat, keeping the V-8 cool. Also, replacing the heavy, high-capacity battery with a small gasoline tank has reduced the weight of the sports car, making the vehicle's performance much more potent.

The GT by Citroën also retained its rigid nature, especially at the rear where the rear cowl that completely covers the engine compartment, provides added handling stability.

Trivia[]

GT5 UKQA CitroenConcept HQ

A GT by Citroën Concept '08 with the twenty colors options in the internal QA ("UK 1609") build. These colors would get removed in the release of the game and can only be accessed with the standard variant from GT PSP.

  • In Gran Turismo 5, this car will always appear as an opponent if using a heavily tuned road car saved in the Favorites menu.
  • The Premium version of this car is available in only one color in GT5; the other colors would get transfered to its petrol-engined counterpart in GT5 and GT6, before losing all the colors on that car as well in GT Sport where only two colors are available for that car. However, the Standard version of the car, importable from GT PSP, still retains the color options available in previous games.
    • However, in an internal build meant for QA purposes (the "UK 1609" build), this car shows the car's colors being transfered from previous games being available to select.[1]
  • The car has made two non-Gran Turismo appearances in Asphalt 8: Airborne and Asphalt 9: Legends. The car depicted in both games is identical to this version, which is the electric-powered concept.
