Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG '00

The CLK55 AMG was a high performance model created by AMG, based on the CLK C class coupe model which debuted in 1997. 55 indicates the engine displacement, and true to its name, a large SOHC V8 is packed under the hood of the CLK.

The CLK boasts specs that could almost be considered excessive, with a maximum output of 347 BHP @ 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 52.0 kgfm @ 3000-4300 rpm. Its 0.22 BHP/kg power to weight ratio is equal to that of first-class sports cars. The engine's power and torque are delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The chassis is equipped with double wishbone suspension in the front and multi-link suspension in the rear. The suspension format is the same as that found in the normal CLK, but the body and suspension have been set up and adjusted to handle the increased power delivery and improve handling performance.

As one could assume by the numerical specs the power performance level of the CLK is simply incredible. With the ESP disabled, even the upgraded 245/45ZR17 rear tyres easily lose traction and burn rubber. Because of the large displacement, naturally-aspirated engine, it provides a huge amount of torque from low rpm to high rpm, and gives never ending acceleration. While it displays a ravaging surge of acceleration at full throttle, it produces enough torque to drive around town with just the slightest touch of your feet on the throttle, and is very easy to drive.

CLK55 race cars were very active in the DTM series back in its homeland, and it is more suited for circuit racing than any other AMG model.
