In-game description[]

This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

The ever-popular Mustang created the American midsized sports-specialty class when it was first introduced in 1964. "Pony cars" have been a fixture on the American enthusiast scene ever since, and the Mustang has long been the most popular example of the genre. For 1998, the regular production Mustang was offered in basic trim with a 3.8-liter overhead valve V6 or in GT form with the single-overhead cam, 16-valve variant of the 4.6-liter "modular" V8 engine. The V8's 225 BHP at 4,750 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm is enough for good performance without being too excessive. The Mustang's rear-wheel drive chassis with independent MacPherson struts in the front and a solid axle in the rear updates its classic muscle car handling to 1990s specifications. Fat, speed-rated tires help its cornering, and its four-wheel disc brakes stop far better than was possible back in 1964. The '98 Mustang GT is civilized enough for real world popularity, but has a touch of bad-boy attitude and the classic V8 rumble.
