Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (better known as Bavarian Motor Works in English or BMW for short) is a German automobile and motorcycle producing company that was founded in the year 1916. BMW owns the Mini brand, as well as producing the cars for the brand. It is also the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. BMW also has it's own Formula 1 team, known as BMW Sauber F1 Team, a Formula 1 team born after the acquisition of the Sauber F1 Team in 2005, that had raced from 2006 until 2009, before the team returns to be propriety of Peter Sauber.
BMW is well known for its performance and luxury vehicles such as the M3 coupe/sedan, M5 performance sedan, and M6 grand touring luxury sport coupe/convertible. BMW vehicles first appeared in Gran Turismo 2, and more BMW vehicles appeared in later games of the series.

Trivia[]
- In Gran Turismo 2, BMW cars are blocked from entering the Wheel Shop due to a hard-coded blacklist,[1] preventing players from changing their wheels. This has historically been speculated to be a requirement from the manufacturer as no other cars are blacklisted, but has never been proven.
- A regular (non-compact) version of a E36 3-series car appears in some GT2 demo builds, internally named gb3cn and with replay name of BMW E36 323i Coupe. The car has a complete body, but with no rims and the rear-left wheels popping out of the rear bumper.[2] Ultimately, the car was cut from the final game.
- The replay name files found in GT2 demos also mention BMW E36 320i Coupe (with internal name of gb0in). While it has no body of it's own (defaulting to the Toyota Altezza placeholder body), it would have likely used the same body as the 323i.[2]
- An entry for a BMW M235i M Performance can be found in GT Sport's files, although without a string name; the car itself never appeared in the game.[3]
- BMW holds the highest number of Gr.3 cars in Gran Turismo Sport, at four cars, after the addition of BMW M3 GT (BMW Motorsport) '11 to the game. This was later equated by Ford in GT7, with addition of the Ford GT Race Car '18 and Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II in that game, as well by Nissan (with the additions of the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette Group 5 '84 and Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 '18) as of version 1.25 of GT7, as well with the inclusion of Nissan GT-R GT500 '99 in GT7's launch car list.
- For some reason, in Gran Turismo 4, the BMW dealership has no BMW logos, and the tuning shop has a weird placeholder logo instead.
