The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R (C5) '00 is a Race car produced by Chevrolet. It appears in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, Gran Turismo Concept, Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6.

The car appears to be the #64, driven by Franck Fréon, Andy Pilgrim, and Kelly Collins, who participated in the GTS class of the 2000 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car finished the race in 10th place overall, achieving the 3rd place in its class.

In-game description

"A 5th generation Corvette race car; unstoppable in its class at Le Mans."
In 1997, the Corvette entered its C5 evolution. The following year, it was announced that Chevrolet would be making a return to GT racing in '99 with a factory-works Corvette.

This new weapon was named the C5-R. Zora Duntov, the "Father of the Corvette", had long harbored dreams of seeing a factory racer based on a standard Corvette battling it out on the world stage. At the C5-R announcement ceremony, it was declared that this was to be the realization of this dream. With this declaration, the passion that Chevrolet had poured into this car became obvious.

The C5-R is based on the standard Corvette body, but the frame had been greatly reinforced, and the body panels are all made of CFRP. The suspension, brakes, and drive-train were all specially[1] designed for racing. The engine specs were not made public as first, and became clear just before the start of the 2002 season, when 5 units were sold for private racing use.

The engine was not based on the LS6, the most powerful engine for the standard C5, but the more basic LS1. This was bored and stroked to the very limits, increasing displacement to 7L, while compression was raised to 12.5, virtually at the limit of its wedge-shaped combustion chambers. Even in the 2001 works specification engine for endurance racing which leaves a generous margin for durability, maximum output surpassed 611 HP. Power output probably has been increased even further in subsequent years.

Following its debut, the C5-R would go on to race in the American Le Mans Series, the SCCA Grand-Am Series, and the 24-hours of Le Mans. It faced a powerful lineup of rivals like the Porsche 911 GT2 and Viper GTS-R, but the C4-R proved itself to be the best in its class.
