In-game description[]

"The top model of the 2nd generation A3, with a high-power V6 engine."

The A3 may have been the most luxurious compact hatchback in the world when it was first introduced. Although it shared many components with the Volkswagen Golf, the car was popular because of its elegant styling inside and out.

In 2003, the second-generation model was introduced, sporting a slightly larger body and a 3-door body style (an all new 5-door was introduced later). Power came via a 1.6-liter SOHC inline-4 and a 2.0 liter SOHC inline-4. The former produced 101 HP and 109.2 lb-ft[1] of torque while the 2.0-liter pumped out 148 HP and 147.5 lb-ft.[2] They came mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Improvements were made to the chassis, with the rear suspension adopting a multilink setup that translated into better cornering prowess and a smoother ride than its predecessor. The highest grade A3, the 3.2 quattro,[3] was powered by a 3.2-liter V-6 that cranked out 250 ps with 32.6 kgm of torque.[4] It was mated to the DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) transmission first used in the Audi TT.

The DSG was Audi's twin-clutch semi-automatic transmission that delivered super fast manual gear changes (faster than a fully manual box) while allowing it to operate in automatic mode, like a conventional automatic transmission. Other makers offered similar gearboxes, such as Toyota and Ferrari, but the Audi version was by far the most refined. The DSG transmission transformed the already sporty A3 into a family car that could be enjoyed on a racetrack.

Notes[]

  1. Miswritten as "ft-lb" in the game
  2. Again misordered
  3. Capitalized as "Quattro" in the game, officially it's lowercase
  4. For some reason metric measurements are used for this line, when one would expect imperial
