Audi is an automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt, Germany and founded in 1909. Before being acquired by Volkswagen AG , Audi was part of Auto Union. Currently the company is praised for their premium luxury saloons and sports cars.

In 1912, Audi was already active in motorsport with the Type C in the Austrian Alpine Rally. 1985 saw the introduction of the S1 Quattro, which successfully continued Audi's rally heritage.

Another notable motorsport success by Audi, is the Diesel powered Le Mans Prototype R8 TDI and its successors.
