The Art Morrison Corvette '60 (SEMA Gran Turismo Awards 2006) is a vintage roadster produced by Art Morrison. It was first featured in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

History

The car was built based on a 1960's Chevrolet Corvette. After being constructed, the car was entered into the Gran Turismo Awards at the 2006 SEMA LA show, where it won a spot in Gran Turismo 5.

Description

"A Gran Turismo Award winner combining classic looks with the heart of a super sport."

Art Morrison is a custom car builder who centers its efforts on providing chassis frames, arms and suspension components, crucial for the customization of hotrods, and drag machines. And of course, they also build their own spectacular show.

The car they brought to the 2006 SEMA show, one of the biggest aftermarket car shows in the US, was this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette. The first thing that draws one's attention is of course its captivating, classic beauty. But if you look carefully, the Wilwood brake kit peeking out of the 18-in. wheels gives a hint that this is not just a pretty car.

On the original frame hidden under the classic silhouette of the Corvette, is an all aluminum block, OHV V8 engine with a massive displacement of 7 liters. Its announced specs are approximately 537 HP and 517.1 lb-ft of torque, a performance level on par with modern-day super sports cars. Its amazing appearance and its modern level of driving performance caught the attention of the Judges, and the Art Morrison Corvette was selected for the "Best Hot Rod" of 2006 in the now familiar "Gran Turismo Awards" at SEMA. It went on further to be selected as the "Best in Show" in the awards, guaranteeing its inclusion in "Gran Turismo."

Handling

The car's handling is pretty good, considering the fact that it's built on a long-outdated chassis. If eased in, the car responds eagerly to driver input throughout the corner, but the line between being right on the edge and being downright out of control is very thin. The car is best in a small drift, as it has tons of body roll and needs it to be able to turn decently. If a good driver is behind the wheel, the car should be okay for long runs, but with a poor one, races lasting longer than five laps will prove to be absolute disaster for the tires.

Due to it's handling performance in corners, the Art Morrison Corvette is a good car for Drifting events. This performance is easily seen when TC (Traction Control) is at 0.
