The Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 TS '98 is a road car produced by Alfa Romeo. It so far appeared only in Gran Turismo 2, being replaced by its 2001 3.0i V6 counterpart.

There's more to the Alfa Romeo Spider than simply a GTV with the roof lopped off. With a heavily strengthened body structure combined to the GTV's great chassis and striking looks, the Spider was ranked as one of the most lusted, after of the mid-90's new wave of roadsters. Similarly built to entertain as the GTV, the Spider benefits from an all-independent suspension set-up comprising compact MacPherson struts at the front with lower wishbones and an anti-roll bar. Impressively, the Spider has exactly the same 1,370 kg kerb weight as the GTV, despite that need for extra body stiffening. Only an optional electric hood assembly tips the scales in the GTV's favour. However, without the solid roof some structural rigidity has been lost and hence the GTV is considered to be the more precise handler of the two. Like the GTV, the Spider also has an ABS anti-lock system to prevent the brakes from locking up in even the most extreme conditions. The superbly direct power-assisted steering is also shared, as are the extra-grippy 205/50 R16 low-profile tyres. The Spider model line-up is even more restricted in most European markets than the GTV's, with just a 2.0 TS available fitted with a 16-valve four-cylinder engine boasting variable valve timing and a variable inlet manifold. Peak power output is 155 BHP at 6,400 rpm. The only transmission choice is a five speed manual 'box. The identical weights in standard form mean that the Spider 2.0 TS returns exactly the same 8.4 second 0-62 mph acceleration time as its coupe twin. Because the hood folds cleanly away behind a solid cover the Spider's aerodynamic disadvantage is small, losing just 3 mph off its top speed to give a 131 mph maximum. If Dustin Hoffman had graduated 30 years later, no doubt this is the car he would have done it in.
